Do you back up my service?

Of couse proper backup is an essential component when your operate a business that’s computer-/server-based. For services where we’re responsible for management (web hosting accounts, Managed Servers, Managed WordPress), we have well-established backup routines.

Our backups are saved on servers located in a different data center than our hosting servers, thusly they are separated geographically. We’ve chosen to do so to limit the risk of failure on both hosting servers and backup servers in case of a disaster.

In Oderland Cloud where you create your own servers, you yourself are responsible for the content of the server and for backing it up.

Web hosting accounts

On our web hosting accounts, we back up all data once per day (often by night). These daily backups are saved for 30 days, and after that monthly backups are saved for an additional two months. It is therefore possible to restore backups as old as up to three months.

When you update a website, we recommend that you use a staging site if the content of the websites is updated continously, such as if you have a webshop or an active community. If you want to update your live site directly, please take a manual backup of it directly before you begin your work.

Our backup solution is called Acronis Backup, and you reach it through cPanel with the icon of the same name. We’ve written the following guide about how you restore backups of files, databases, email, and forwarders via Acronis Backup.

Managed Server

If you have a Managed Server, backups are managed in the same way as for web hosting account, the only difference being that backups are stored for 12 months. We can also customise the backup schedule to your needs.

If you want more frequent backups, you can order this as an addon for the server. Please refer to these instructions as how to order an upgrade to your server.

Other server services

In Oderland Cloud, no backup is included by default. Therefore, you need to attend to your backup needs yourself. We offer a backup solution that you can use, called CloudBackup. You can read more about it here.
