I have registered a new domain, when will it start working?

If you order a domain name, it will not be registered until we receive payment for the registration invoice. If you pay by card or Swish, the registration is almost instantaneous, which is why it is usually the best payment method when buying new domain names – what if someone else finds out that they want to register the same domain name as you!

After the domain is registered, it needs to be added to a service with us to start pointing somewhere. You can add it to a web hosting account, a FreeDNS account, an account on an Agency service or on a Managed Server by following these instructions.

As soon as the domain is set up on the service, a DNS zone is created for the domain name and it starts to propagate (spread) across the internet. This propagation can take up to four hours, so it can take up to four hours for the domain to get up and running properly.

In some rare cases, it may take longer than four hours, for example if you try to visit the domain/site before the propagation reaches your internet service provider.

Once the domain’s existence has spread across the web, AutoSSL will also be able to issue SSL certificates for the domain name.
