How do I create FTP accounts?

Usually, you don’t need to create a separate FTP account. You can instead use the login credentials for cPanel to access the entire file structure of your web hosting account.
If you want to grant access to someone not trusted with the cPanel credentials, you can create an FTP account following the instructions below.

To create an FTP account, begin by logging on to cPanel.

  1. Click the icon FTP Accounts under Files.
  2. Here, enter the details for the new FTP account, e.g. username and password.
  • Log In and Domain: Under Log In, you enter the first part of the complete username. Under Domain, you select the second part of the username. So if you enter joe under Log In and select the domain exempel.se, your complete FTP username will be joe@exempel.se.

To avoid problems, please enter the username with lower-case letters only.

  • Password: We recommend that you set a strong password, at least 10 characters long, using both numbers, letters and special characters. You can also let cPanel generate a strong password for you by clicking the Password Generator button.
  • Directory: The account will be given access to the folder entered here, and will not be able to reach any folders/files higher up in the file structure on the server. If you want to give the FTP account access to your entire account, leave the field blank or enter /.
If you on the other hand only wish to give the account access to a specific folder on the account, enter the path to it here instead.
  • Quota: This is the total available disk space for the FTP account. You can limit the available space if you want to, but most often there’s no reason not to give the account Unlimited.
  1. Once the account has been created, it can be used to access the account via FTP.
