How do I change the document root for a domain name?

If your domain has a proper domain name as a subdomain you currently can’t change docroot via “Domains”. Use “Addon domains” instead.

To change the document root for a domain name you need to follow the steps below.

You can only change the document root for addon domains and sub domains. You can’t do it for your accounts main domain and aliases. If you have an alias you want to change the document root for you need to first remove it and then add it as an addon domain instead.

  1. Login to your cPanel accocunt.
  2. When you have logged in to cPanel you need to click on the icon called Addon Domains. If you want to change the document root for a subdomain you instead need to click on Subdomains.
  3. Find the domain name you want to change the document root for and then click on the little icon that looks like a pen to the right of the current document root.
  4. In the window that opens you need to enter the new document root. Click on Change when you are done.
