How do I create new login details for mailings via Postal?

If you need login details for the Postal web interface, see this guide instead.

When sending mail via Postal, you need to use login details. You can create several sets of credentials if, for example, you use Postal to send mail from different websites and/or platforms.

In order to follow this guide, you need to have a mail server with at least one domain connected to your Postal Service. To create a mail server, see this guide, and to add a domain to a mail server, take a look at these instructions.

To create login details for mailing via Postal, follow these steps:

  1. Begin by logging on to Postal’s control panel.
  2. Then click on the mail server on which you want to create the login credentials.
  3. Click Credentials in the menu.
  4. If you do not have any credentials already created, click on Add your first credential.
If you have created credentials before and want to add a new set, click Add another credential instead.
  5. You will now have to do some setup for the new login details.

Fill in the information as follows:

Type: Here you can select SMTP, API, or SMTP-IP. Usually SMTP is used for sending emails, but if you know that the platform you are using connects via API, select it. Otherwise, choose SMTP. You can read more about SMTP/API here.

Name: Enter a name for the credentials. You only use this to distinguish multiple credentials from each other.

Key: The password will be displayed here as soon as you save. You cannot set your own password, you must use the one generated by Postal.

Hold: Leave this on “Process all messages” if you want mail sent with the login details to be sent to the recipients. If you select “Hold messages from this credential”, the mail will be handed over to Postal from your platform / website but not sent to the recipient.

Then click on the Create credential button.
  6. You will now be returned to the list of available login details.
  7. Click on the row of the credential you just created to access and copy the password to the website/platform you will use for the Postal mailing.

Remember to use the short name you gave your mail server as your username when sending emails via SMTP (step 3 of the guide, “short name”).
