Can you whitelist IP addresses for scanning with vulnerability scanners?

If you have a web hosting account or an Agency service with us, we do not whitelist IP addresses belonging to services that perform security scans, vulnerability checks, penetration tests, etc. such as Detectify, Probely, Attaxion or similar services.

We have noticed that when the IP addresses of such services have been whitelisted in the past, it has a very negative impact on the entire server as they effectively perform a DoS attack against the server. In a shared environment, this affects many more people than just the client who requested the whitelisting. We will therefore not whitelist IP addresses belonging to such services.

If you have your own server set up through Oderland Cloud, you control the server’s firewall and can blacklist and whitelist IP addresses as you wish.

On Managed Servers we can add whitelists, but as the service can cause performance issues on the server, monitoring must be turned off when using them.

Our general recommendation is that tools of this type only run against development environments and not production environments.
