For each domain added to a web hosting account, there is a folder called the document root. The document root is the folder where all files and folders belonging to the domain (and consequently, its website) is located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since you can add an unlimited number of additional domains<\/a> (and subdomains<\/a>) on a web hosting account, it can easily become a bit messy if you’ve not had a specific structure from the very beginning. Follow these instructions to find where the document root for a certain website\/domain\/subdomain resides on the account:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Begin by logging on to cPanel<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Click the icon Domains<\/code> under Domains<\/code>.

  3. A bit down on the page, you’ll find a table listing all domains and subdomains on your account. In the column Document Root<\/code> you will see the path for the domain’s\/subdomain’s document root.

    For the main domain on the account (marked Main Domain<\/code> in the list shown in the picture above) will always have public_html<\/code> as its document root. This cannot be changed.
