Two-factor authentication (2FA) is something that’s used when you log in somewhere. One example where it can be used is our Client area. When activated, you need to enter two different factors. In total, there’s three factors: something you know<\/em> (a password), something you have<\/em> (a physical item, e.g.<\/em> a credit card), and something you are<\/em> (e.g.<\/em> a fingerprint).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Normally, only one factor is used when you log in somewhere, and this is something you know<\/em> (your password). Nowadays, it’s popular to add something you have<\/em> as an additional factor, most commonly an app on your phone that can generate codes. Hence, your phone becomes the second factor (something you have<\/em>). When logging in after activating 2FA, you need your password and a code that your app has generated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activate 2FA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  1. Begin by logging on to the Client area<\/a> on our website.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. The click My Account<\/code> under Account<\/code> in the menu to the left.

  3. Then click the Security settings<\/code> tab.
    \"\"<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Now click the green Click here to enable<\/code> button.
    \"\"<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Finally, click the red Get started<\/code> button in the box that pops up.
    \"\"<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Scan the QR code on the screen using your 2FA app (if you don’t have one yet, please refer to the list above<\/a>). Then enter the numbers generated by the app in the text field and click the red Submit<\/code> button.

  7. You will now get confirmation that 2FA has been activated on your account. Save the backup code shown on screen somewhere safe, and click the red Close<\/code> button to return to the Client area.

    Make sure that you save the backup code somewhere safe, so you can access the Client area if you lose your app or phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Deactivate 2FA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    1. Begin by logging on to the Client area<\/a> on our website.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. The click My Account<\/code> under Account<\/code> in the menu to the left.

    3. Now click the Security settings<\/code> tab.
      \"\"<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. Click the red Click here to disable<\/code> button.
      \"\"<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    5. Enter the password you use for logging on to the Client area (1) and then click the red Disable two-factor authentication<\/code> button (2).

      If you get an error message telling you that you’ve entered the wrong password, double-check that this is not the case. If you’ve given the correct password but the error persists, this may be due to the presence of certain special characters known to cause problems:

      If this is the case, you need to change your password to the Client area before you can disable 2FA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. You will now get confirmation that 2FA has been disabled. Click the red Close<\/code> button to return to the Client area.

        Keep in mind that your account’s no longer protected by the extra security previously provided by 2FA once it’s been deactivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        If you’ve lost both your 2FA code and backup code<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        If you’re no longer able to log on to the Client area due to a lost 2FA code (e.g.<\/em> if you’ve got a new phone, uninstalled the 2FA app, etc) and also a lost backup code, we can turn 2FA off for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        To begin the process with deactivating 2FA via us, please send a message from the email address registered on the client account where 2FA should be disabled. Send the email to support@oderland.se<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
